We are rallying together our communities to Stop the Suffering in Fayette County. We are planning two community-wide events to protect the water, land, and people of Fayette County from the harms of toxic waste dumping.
On Tuesday May 9th, the Fayette County Commission's ordinance banning frack waste is being challenged in Federal Court. Headwaters Defense will be gathering on the County Commission lawn in Fayetteville, WV. The citizens of Fayette County will be hosting a community discussion of the county ordinance and recent court decisions. Impacted community members will share their stories of harms from the toxic waste industry. Faith leaders will speak out, sing hymns, and hold a candlelit vigil for the harmed, for the water, air, and land, and for future generations.
On Saturday May 13th, the community will rally together in Lochgelly, WV near the Danny Webb Construction injection well site. We will be holding a peaceful and prayerful demonstration to call for the immediate shut-down of toxic waste disposal in Lochgelly and across Fayette County.
In order to pull these grassroots community events together, we need some funds. Here is a breakdown of our budgeted needs for these events:
- Food and grill supplies - $120
- Water - $30
- Port-a-john -$180
- Printing materials - $120
- Art supplies - $50
- Legal Defense Fund - $1000
In total, we are asking for $1,500 to hold these events, fund our legal defense, and continue the fight.
