My twin sister, Joyce Colbert-Jones was a 1978 graduate of Bay High School in Panama City, FL. She relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1980’s where she was a great supporter of the arts; Joyce loved all things related to art, fashion and music. As such, it was no surprise that she returned annually to Panama City Beach, FL to attend the Seabreeze Jazz Festival.
On Saturday, April 20, 2013, while attending the Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Joyce suddenly collapsed and passed away the following day at Bay Medical Center from an aneurysm. In recognition of her two great loves—music and her hometown, Panama City, FL — the Joyce Loved Music (JLM) scholarship was started in her memory. Scholarships are presented every year in April to a deserving Northwest Florida area senior high school band student on the main stage at the Seabreeze Jazz Festival held in Panama City Beach, FL.
Students will be asked to submit a brief statement with their applications stating why they should receive the JLM scholarship. Entries will be reviewed by JLM Board Members and a recipient will be chosen. The recipient will be presented a check made out to their college of choice on April 27, 2019 at the Seabreeze Jazz Festival.
