Elizabeth Chiomenti hasn't added a story.
Hi, My name is Elizabeth and I'm very excited and a little nervous for my Grandmother (Nana) who will reach her 93rd birthday in January 2016 as she is making a very big move in a few months! Nana adopted me at birth, raised me, helped me with my daughters and is still my best friend.
She has dedicated her life in service in alot of ways. She taught school for over 40 years and keeps in touch with many students. She loves them very much. She also loves going to church. It's there where she is able to inspire people and show kindness to some who are in need. Throughout my life, there has never been a time that I can remeber where she wasn't helping someone. Either providing shelter in our home or going to the home of others to teach them and show them love. Even at 92, she recently traveled to New York (Spanish Harlem) where she lived as a child and visited her elderly brother who she holds a special place for. She was the eldest of 7 children and left her very poor home in NYC at 19 years of age to follow her calling and ended up traveling the nation and the world changing lives of everyone she came in contact with. When her dear husband (Papa) passed away a few years ago at 95, she became determined to be successful at new adventures such as balancing a check book, paying bills and taking out the trash...all things Papa used to handle. She even cleans the neighbors home! At 92! One of her favorite activites is to visit the neighborhood grocery store and hug the people who work there. They are like family to her and she truly adores and cares about them. She gets so excited anytime she is able to visit them!
Nana's son and daughter in law have built a house in the Upper Pinensula of Michigan and will move there in October when they retire from their job. They built an adorable home onto theirs for Nana and will continue to look out for her and provide for her needs. Although she is in excellent physical and mental health, life will continue to move forward. She has an amazing attitude about the move and is excited to be in a new place where the memories of her loving husband, Papa don't haunt her daily as she misses him incredibly. I just hope she is able to find neighbors, churches and grocery stores to visit and make new friends there :-)
I currently live in Tennessee with my husband, four kids and our 13 year old baby Cockpoo. I visit Nana as often as possible. I trave for work so it's quite challenging to plan visits and trips when my job is so demanding of my time. I do my best to balance all family and work obligations but have been pretty stressed about how to spend time with Nana and help her to prepare for the move.
I recently requested to work remotely for my client, however the specific client wasn't willing to oblige, so I requested an unpaid leave of absense from work (my company isn't FMLA eligible) and to my suprise and gratitide, it was approved! So now, I will be able to go to Frederick, MD and spend most of the month of October with Nana!!! I am planning to help her with rides to visit friends and family, as well as driving her anywhere she needs to go, helping her pack and give away items she won't need to take and take her to the park, the lake and other adventures and really make this a special time.
Nana always tells me that she couldn't love me more if I was born to her. I know it's true and I feel extremely blessed to be able to have someone in my life who I know for certain truly loves me and wants the best for me. Now it's time to show her how much she means to me and October will be that time for us, together.
Unfortunately, a month without a paycheck will set my family and me very far behind. We are already struggling but it's very stressful to think of no paychecks for a while. In order to provide my Nana with the most awesome experience and be able to focus on her without worrying about finances, it would be so incredible to receive some help. It's hard for me to ask, but this is meaningful enough that I feel okay about it.
If you can help in any way to make this happen, it would mean the world to me. Thank you in advance and may you be blessed a million times more for your gift.
