Dear Friend,

We are sponsoring this fundraising page In memory of Roxanne Shabani.

Our team will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in the Charlotte Walk, benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and we would appreciate any support that you give for this worthwhile cause.

The world lost an amazing person, Roxanne Shabani, on June 25, 2010 to suicide. Roxanne struggled for many years with depression and mental illness. And after fighting for such a long time, she lost the fight. Roxanne had an infectious, carefree spirit that could light up even the darkest of rooms. She was effortlessly brilliant, an accomplished artist, and loved by all who knew her. We are walking in AFSP's Charlotte WalkOut of the Darkness Community Walk to not only raise awareness for the prevalence of depression, mental illness, and suicide all around us, but also to raise funds to help stop suicide from taking the life of another bright young soul like Roxanne. You and I, we don't understand what is going on inside someone with mental illness. But hopefully, if we can raise money to help fund research about what causes mental illness, we can help find a cure. We can stop this from happening in the future. We hope to be able to give people the support they need to make it through the tough times. We want them to know that they are loved, and that the world would be worse off without them,

Furthermore, suicide awareness and prevention is one of the least-funded causes in the United States, even though it is one of the top ten causes of death. Let's change that.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 38,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.

We hope you will consider supporting our participation in this event. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP, and all donations are 100% tax deductible. Any amount you can spare would be greatly appreciated. We hope that we can help someone else survive through the pain and suffering that Roxanne suffered through.

Donating online is safe and easy! To make an online donation please click the "Contribute" button on this page.
