Can you help me take the next step? For as long as I can remember I've been making art. It started when I was little. My bedroom wall was my first canvas; my medium was a pack of crayons. Art is my way of making visible what can be felt but often unseen and allows me to offer something beautiful back to the world around me. Over the years my work has developed tremendously. I'm become well versed in large scale painting, pen and ink, performance, commercial design, muraling, writing, metal sculpture, interactive installation, and most recently started to learn video editing and event visuals. I've exhibited my work in cafes, magazines, small galleries, international festivals, and also illustrated two books. Though I live simply, my art carries me. This leaves me feeling extremely lucky to be supported by what I truly love. I'm at a point now where I want to take the next step with my work–to propel it beyond my current range. That is why I am asking for your help in getting me to the Toni Onley Artists' Project in Well, BC, this July. The 11 day Project is designed to help emerging artist's gain the skills and direction needed to advance their artistic careers. Working side-by-side with three professional international artist mentors, emerging artists like me will learn how to submit to galleries, deal with media, apply for larger grants, and communicate clearly about their work and process. I have already been accepted to the program, and have been chosen to receive 50% scholarship for the tuition. But I'll need more funding to actually make this happen. The funds raised from this Fundrazr campaign will cover the other half of the tuition, the travel costs of getting to and from Wells (a 12 hour drive from the Slocan Valley), and extra art supplies for the project. I will cover all my food and accommodation costs for the project.
I would like to thank everyone in advance for helping me with this campaign. When I expressed interest in attending this mentorship, but felt I couldn't due to my financial state, I received so much love, support and encouragement that I couldn't not try. So here I am, and here you are! I know that everyone is busy in their lives and endeavours, so just knowing that you are taking a moment to check this out is an incredible feeling.
