My elderly parents and I hired a builder to assist with a major reno project on their home to ease their way of life as they continue to age and care for the health of my Dad. The builder declared bankruptcy and abandoned the job, less than half complete. More ...

My parents and I hired a general contractor, who ultimately declared bankruptcy, that worked on a project for a major renovation that would create a secondary suite to their home and assist them with the mortgage payments, as my father has been repeatedly ill, and finances are a growing concern. This renovation was significant, and including lifting the house to ensure the height conformed to city bylaws. The short of our tedious and frustration search for a builder ended with a Parksville builder, Michael Renaud of JM Renaud Ltd. He produced a written contract that stated the job, to completion would be done for $90,000. Ultimately, with about 40% of the job completed, he declared bankruptcy and there are liens on the house and much of the work that was done needs repair. My parents continue to live upstairs with no laundry facilitiies, a pellet stove only to heat the house, holes in the drywall, and an addition that is only framed in. Without being able to pay the mortgage past what funds remain, we are afraid of the outcome. In our desperation, we turned to the community for help.

To make a long story short, through the committed generosity of Dan Poirier of Poirier Painting, the media, and contributions throughout the community, we are thankfully at the stage where we have hope that this project may be completed. We now have a contractor completing the job along with the donations offered from various local businesses. The estimated amount we require to see this through is $15,000 - $20,000.

Your attention, time and contributions are appreciated more than anyone could possibly know. Thank you.
