In May 2015 I'm planning on travelling to Mexico and Costa Rica to help with ongoing volunteer projects focused on collecting data on the mortality and breeding rates of sea turtles and other marine life on the coral reefs. The projects also combat illegal poaching and tackle pollution hands-on, which are huge threats to the future of these delicate eco-systems.
This is a very important cause, as of all forms of animal conservation, marine conservation receives the least funding. Much more attention is gived to the "popular" and "cuddly" animals such as elephants and pandas, whilst the "cold and emotionless" sea creatures are often forgotten about.
For the last two years I have been working hard and saving towards my goal, but in order to reach my deadline I'm going to need a little help. Any money raised will go towards covering the cost of flights, visas, innoculations, insurance, accomodation, meals, training, and of course keeping this important research and conservation work going. I'm aiming to spend up to six months working on these projects, which is likely to cost in the region of £10000, so any help that can be given would be much appreciated! I've set my fundraising goal at £3000, as this combined with my savings fund and another year of hard work (and eating ramen) should send me on my way.
