Dear friends, family, and community,

My name is Tenisha Padilla, and I am currently a senior in high school attending Kirtland Central High, NM. I have dreamed of being a doctor for quite some time now, and am particularly interested in the field of cognitive sciences, the study of the human brain. I am fascinated by the brain and its unpredictability, which is why I hope to one day uncover secrets and revelations of the brain that are yet to be discovered. I am also interested in biomedical engineering, solely because I wish to find a cure for many illnesses such as cancer and alzheimers, even diabetes. My life has been affected by these diseases and certain brain traumas which has driven me to develop a passion for finding solutions to such medical ailments. Furthermore, I have come to realize that these illnesses are seriously impacting not only the world and my community, but my fellow Navajo people. With my medical training, I hope to serve and provide a cure for those in my community and nation whom are afflicted with such medical conditions.

I have maintained an excellent work ethic while in school, which has just recently been greatly noticed. I received a letter from the National Academy of Future Physicians notifying me of my overall outstanding academic record and leadership potential. This association hasnominated me as an Honoree and scholar representing the State of New Mexico. Part of this nomination is an invitation to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders to be held February 14th-16th, 2014, in Washington D.C. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. At the conference, I will come face-to-face with winners of the Nobel Prize, prominent medical school deans, leaders of medicine, and medicine futurists. Nonetheless, as an Honoree at the conference, I will be eligible to compete for a full medical school scholarship which is nearly $185,000.

All costs to attend the conference such as air fare, meals, and lodging must be paid by conference attendees. In total, I will need to pay roughly $2500 to attend. This is impossible given the status of my family’s overall income, which is why I am writing you this letter. I humbly ask for your support in funding my trip to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. With the experience of attending this conference, I will gain a better perspective of the technology and treatments now being used in medicine, with regard to the innovative techniques soon to come. This knowledge will prove exceptionally beneficial in my pursuit in the field of medicine. If you can contribute in any way, please make a donation of any amount. Your consideration alone would greatly enrich my future of becoming a Native American physician.Again, thank you for your time and aid in my effort to attend this conference.

Sincerely,

Tenisha Padilla
