A letter from Kristin Travis Northrup
I first want to thank those of you who have had me in there thoughts and prayers in the past few months.
To those who may be able to help,
As most of you know, Michael and I were pregnant last July. Four months later in October 2012, I was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. I received immediate surgery and underwent several weeks of recovery in the hospital. Fortunately, the cancer was removed from my colon with surgery. Unfortunately, the cancer has metastasized to my liver and in order to ensure my best chance of survival we had to terminate the pregnancy. Michael and I have been fighting this together and we have traveled back and forth from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa to visit our doctor, Dr. Almhanna. I have been receiving chemotherapy here locally in Boynton since November of 2012. The treatments have been going well and my cancer numbers are down. The first scans revealed that the combination of drugs they are using appear to be working, we will be getting the next set of scans in the months to come. For now my treatments need to occur every two weeks and scans are every 3 months. With the cancer and the drain on my body from the treatments it is hard to complete standard tasks at some points, and I have been unable to work since back in October. In addition to these challenges, there are many costs. After trying to remain positive there is a constant reminder from the doctors and financial collection groups that many bills are past due. I have health insurance, which most think would be all you need to handle this, but the monthly insurance premium, prescription co-pays, doctor visit co-pays, and yearly maximum payout ($7,000 a year) add up to a lot. And as most of you would guess insurance is not prorated yearly, yet it ends on December 31st each year. This gave me two maximum payouts due in the past 4 months. To continue the treatments I must reach both maximum payouts. I’m not the type of person to ask for money, but I have already cashed in my IRA to pay some of the first payout. Michael has been paying the copays and monthly premiums up to this point. If anyone can help out even a little, it would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows someone that can hold some type of fundraiser this would be helpful.
Thank you ahead of time for any support. I have setup a donation page with Fundrazr.com
