Hello all, As some of you already know, I will be fulfilling a huge life dream of mine this October by traveling as a volunteer to Uganda, Africa! Not only will this be my first volunteer trip abroad, but it will also mark my very first time traveling to an area far off the beaten path. For one month starting mid-October, I will be living and working in a very small, rural village in Uganda, known as Iganga. As a volunteer there, I will be working on a number of locally initiated projects that include working within the orphanages as well as with grassroots community-based organizations focused on improving the quality of Ugandan life through a wide variety of community development initiatives including adult education programs, organic farming, income generation activities (ie. poultry and livestock rearing), HIV/AIDS education, building construction projects, and more. For those that are unfamiliar with the region, Uganda ranks among the world's poorest countries. Iganga, the village in which I will be living and working, lacks basic infrastructure such as such as stable electricity, running water, waste management, and access to education and healthcare. Before departing in October, my personal goal is to raise a total of $550 that will go directly to supporting the overall wellbeing of the men, women, and children living in Iganga. I will use these funds to buy and bring much-needed health, living, and building supplies, such as toothbrushes, blankets, food, and clothing, to the village and to those in the village who truly need it the most. With the supplies brought to the village through your donations, I believe that it is very possible to cultivate hope for a brighter future, inspire personal growth, and raise awareness of important health practices within this small and deserving African community. I am so excited to move forward with this trip, and I look forward to sharing my stories with each and every one of you after my stay in Uganda. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you so much for your time in visiting my page and for all of your support! Please feel free to share this page with anyone you feel might be interested in helping out! With gratitude, Stephanie Dao
