Join Me in Fundraising For Michelle Basco, with Love !! <3
Hello everyone!
Michelle Basco was diagnosed with an aggressive
form of breast cancer last year: stage 2B triple-negative breast
cancer (TNBC) with a BRCA1 genetic mutation. Her journey has been
incredibly challenging, and I, along with her family and friends, have
stood by her through every step, witnessing first-hand the
difficulties she endures daily. This has inspired me to launch this
campaign to provide her with essential support for her ongoing cancer treatment.
Throughout the past year, Michelle bravely completed chemotherapy, had to go completely bald due to chemo medication, too many side effects to count (some side effects are lifelong & she will need to continue drinking medication for the rest of her life), surgery to remove the cancer & opted for a double mastectomy. She was fortunately cancer-free after all the treatment & was able to ring the bell!!! :D
We believed the most challenging phase was behind her, but the reality is that she continues to face immunotherapy treatments every three weeks, along with heart check-ups, gynecological exams, and other medical evaluations. The medications she is prescribed are so potent that these follow-up appointments remain crucial for her health.
Watching her resilience in battling cancer while maintaining a consistent positive attitude has been truly inspiring to say the least. I had hoped that post-surgery, her life would return to some sense of 'normalcy'; however, the fight for her well-being persists day after day. The financial burden of her treatment is significant, accumulating to over 2.5 million yen, equivalent to 16,000 USD in just least year alone. And the bills keeps increasing, with Keytruda (immunotherapy) treatment costs more than 100,000 yen or 650 USD, (with insurance) PER session. She needs a minimum of 4 more of theses sessions. This period has been undeniably stressful for her.
In light of this, I have decided to organize a campaign, during the month of May, where I will push my physical limits by running 333 km. The number 3 holds special significance as a nod to her triple-negative breast cancer diagnosis, symbolizing my commitment to fundraising and honoring those who are fighting similar battles. The proceeds of the fundraising will go 95% to Michelle, and the other 5% I will allocate to a charity of Michelle's choice.
