Please help me get my friend Marybell home!
My name is Judith, and I met Marybell about 1 year ago through a mutual aid network.
I was dropping groceries at her home after she had a stroke that rendered her unable to work. We became friends over time and I learned her story.
Marybell is an Indigenous American, and has four adult kids that are also Mexican, and they have been living in Pittsburgh since 2012. Her family has endured numerous hardships, and after her parents and brother passed away a few years ago, it sent her life spiraling without any support network.
Marybell is determined to get back on her feet, and has been working hard, just like her kids.
She is originally from South Dakota, and a tribal member of the Oglala-Sioux tribe. She and two of her kids have expired tribal IDs, so they need to go back home to renew. They are getting increasingly nervous that they run into federal agents with expired ids. They did save up money for this trip that they were going to take this February, but unexpected necessary expenses left them with no funds to go home.
Besides renewing their IDs, they also want to
visit Marybell's sisters. Vicky and Rita both live in a home in Hot
Springs, as they are disabled. They are very close to Marybell but
weren't able to see her for several years now. Hot Springs is not
the cheapest place to stay for a few days, so some of the funds
raised will go towards paying for lodging there.
