Juan Jose Delgado hasn't added a story.

Those most susceptible to Coronavirus, according to all our information - which we're getting mostly from you guys up in The States through social media - are the old, the young, the sick, the weak, the impoverished. As an American professional working in Mexico, I am concerned more than anything about the orphan population down here.
This child lives in Ensenada's orphanage for disabled, sick, parentless children - Casa de San Gabriel
(www.GabrielHouseOfMexico.com). Our organization - Unidad de Tratamiento Francisco Delgado - has a friendly, reciprocal relationship with Casa de San Gabriel. But this is something more - these children would be incredibly vulnerable to death in the case this virus were to enter their little world. So, even though we are in short supply for ourselves, both of our drug/alcohol rehab centers, we are launching a co-fundraiser with San Gabriel - right now - this campaign, whereupon they will receive 50% of any donation that comes in to help both of our organizations. 50% will go towards the preventative/protective supplies for our two centers - the one in San Vicente, and the one in Ensenada - and the other 50% will go fully to Casa de San Gabriel for same needs. They have absolutely nothing, guys. All they can do to protect themselves right now is to quarantine. Until yesterday, they didn't have anything. We brought over what we could. It's a start.
I can't imagine how devastating it would be if this virus were to get into any of these orphanages, especially San Gabriel, where all the children are sick, either physically or cognitively, or both.
I'm an ESL teacher, I'm a public relations guy for both of the drug/alcohol rehab facilities of Unidad de Tratamiento Francisco Delgado; but, right now, I'm feeling just like a guy in a position to do something, SOMETHING, for the community I serve around this whole virus terror.
The Mexican people are not following the lead/advice of neither their government, nor ours (USA). They are, you guys (my fellow gringos living in America), following y'all. Mimicking y'all. (Yeah, I'm a Texan). But seriously, they're following your lead. Thanks, guys.
(Above, left-to-right: Myself, Marisol of Casa de San Gabriel, and Juan Jose of Unidad Francisco Delgado)
Thank y'all for all the advice and info you've been steadily feeding us during this whole thing, through emails and calls and texts and social media. Now, masks and gloves are being worn, sanitizing stations are everywhere in the stores that are still open. People are self-quarantining. Hydrating. Not taking ibuprofen or aspirin. Etc. Etc. They're following your lead. Thank you, because you guys are doin' it right up there.
For us down here, it's a little more of a challenge. Access to product, even when you have the funds, is limited. We've found it's one of those deals where we send at least one team out everyday just to hit the stores like Walmart and Costco and the paint shops, etc., just to see if we get lucky that a load of something useful in battling this has just landed. Supplies are coming in everyday on the boats, so the product is procurable, it's just a hassle, diverts us from other things we could be doing with that manpower and vehicle, but it's really just a hassle. It's actually a damn blessing we have access to anything at all. Here and there, in God's time, we'll gradually find everything we need for both our houses, and San Gabriel.
The obstacle, of course, is lack of funding, and that's why this campaign has been launched. We think around 3k trickling in over a month's time will cover all parties, at least for awhile (Lord knows how long all this is going to last).
Thank you in advance for both reading this, and for considering what this effort models for like communities, like organizations. If you are able to donate, your funds will go to all the things you guys tell us we need. Fully transparent all-the-way-around here. We will constantly keep you updated on FaceBook with real-time, picture proof that your funds are going toward the prevention of the spread of the virus in this developing country. If you can't donate, I still thank you. Thanks for your info and advice.....that stuff is saving lives, guys, I promise you, just keeping us informed. Love y'all. Andrew.

  1. What is the problem you want to solve?
Provide a description of the underlying problem or situation you want to improve with funding. Explain why this issue is important and what negative effects it currently has on people, the environment or your community.
  2. What is your solution?
Describe your plan to address the problem and highlight what makes your approach unique or effective.
  3. How will the funds be used?
Outline how the money will be allocated to specific programs, resources or services.
  4. How will contributions make a tangible difference?
Explain the benefits and positive changes resulting from your project being funded. If appropriate, also explain how the lives of beneficiaries will be impacted.
