Matt DeBarr hasn't added a story.
On April 20th, 2014, the Ohio State Rugby team won the BTU Sevens Championship Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the Collegiate Rugby Sevens Championship in Philadelphia that will be played on May 31st and June 1st. The games are set to be broadcast on NBC and NBC Sports. In total over 8 hours of live coverage of the tournament will be aired.
The Ohio State Rugby team is a university based Club sport team, and receives no money from the OSU Athletic department. So while earning this bid is a huge accomplishment, for us to travel and compete in this 20 team, 2-day, National Championship against other Varsity and Elite Club programs, we are required to purchase 300 tickets at $35.00 per seat, making our entrance fee a total of $10,500.
If you are an Ohio State Alumnus or a friend/fan of our program we are asking for your support by making a donation in helping take our boys to Philadelphia. Anything helps. For those of you who might have a company willing to sponsor us on a larger scale, we do have a 501c3 account with the school that you could also take advantage of. If interested please contact Wes Campbell at wes@osurugby.com for more information.
Any donation you can make, wether its $5 or $500 would be appreciated... However, if you can make a $100 donation we will send you two tickets to the eent, so you can come and watch your Buckeyes in person and we will throw in a Big Ten Championship T-Shirt!
If you can make a donation of $40 or more we will send you 1 ticket to the CRC event.

* Rugby Sevens is a 7 on 7 full contact competition, that requires the upmost of athleticism, power and endurance. It has become one of the fastest growing sports sports in the world, as Rugby Sevens was also recently approved to be the newest official sport for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
**The Ohio State Rugby Club was formed in 1966. Since then we have competed in the 15 on 15 version of the sport and only recently in 2010 (once the Olympic announcement was made) we have we been competing in the Sevens version of the game. This year is the first time we have ever won the Big Ten Sevens Championship and earned an automatic qualifying bid to the CRC. We have received an at large bid in 2011 and Columbus even hosted the original event in 2010.
***Our most notable alumni from the OSU Sevens team, is current New England Patriot, Nate Ebner. Nate was a former All American Rugby player who walked on to the OSU Football team, And when the CRC was formed, he helped lead our team in 2010 and 2011 while also continuing to playing football for the Buckeyes as well, before being selected by the Patriots in the 6th round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
