KayCee Cruz hasn't added a story.
Bandit has a bit of a sad background. He's roughly 3.5 years old (or so I was told by the people that had him before) and he was severely neglected by his previous home. So much so, that Bandit nearly died after being adopted by me in the summer of 2013. He collapsed without warning and was rushed to the emergency vet. After some sleepless nights, hourly syringes and Bandit's own will to survive, he made it through. However, he was left blind. I came to find out he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease from his life of neglect and is allergic to the food they were feeding him. He has since been on a special diet (chicken free) and finally gained some weight (a whole pound, actually!).
On 2/22/14, a mass on his groin was discovered. At first it was a small bump, but as the day went on, his skin began to bruise and nearly turn black. He was again brought to the emergency vet. Bandit was given an antibiotic for a likely UTI due to the mass making it hard for him to urinate. He was scheduled with his regular exotic vet (Two Rivers Vet in West Fargo, ND) and it was clear the mass was growing. Bandit underwent his exam, presurgical exam and then it was the day to remove the mass. However, that day it was discovered that Bandit's spleen was enlarged. Instead of removing the mass, Bandit had a biopsy done and took some xrays. Thankfully, no other organs were enlarged.
The biopsy results came back 3/14/2014 as cancer. Apocrine adenocarcinoma to be exact. This cancer often spreads, so Bandit is currently awaiting an ultrasound ($260) and another exam ($50) to see if he has any other masses on his scent glands. This type of cancer is like a mammory cancer. If the ultrasound looks good, Bandit will need to have the mass removed. The previous surgery quote for mass removal was $600-$900.
Bandit previously raised $300 toward his biopsy cost! This was amazing. After medications and the xrays, his total bill was about $520.
Please consider donating to help Bandit. The expenses I am expecting include exam, ultrasound, surgery, medications and post surgery exams.
**Any and all money raised will be used toward Bandit's care. Should Bandit not need any of the money raised, it will be used to help animals like him.
