When I Grow Up Nebraska will be hosting several 5K and 1 mile Runs/walks throughout Nebraska.

We want these events to be a safe place where that the children that may feel different because of their birth defect or a medical issue, we want them to know that everyone is different and its okay to be yourself. While at the same time we are raising money for the Fetal care program at The Children’s hospital.

We are asking for donations for the expresses for the runs/walks and to help spread awareness. A portion of the registration fee for the Runs/walks will go toward Fetal Care program at Children's Hospital. (To register for the Runs/Walks will be through another link, NOT through this site).

The program ‘When I grow up’ started when I submitted photos of my daughter to a modeling agency. They were so excited and scheduled an appointment to meet her in person and then sign a contract. Before her appointment I deiced to submit photos of both of her hands. One of Payton’s hand was effected by a birth defect called amniotic band syndrome which in her case left her with stub like fingers on her left hand. Once the agency saw those photos they immediately emailed me back and canceled her appointment. With the agency trying to be polite about the situation stated that I will talk to their clients and see if there is some way to work around her birth defect. To me as a parent that is not the right way to go. Even if they agency had a client willing to ‘work’ with Payton I wouldn’t want my child growing up thinking that her hand is not a blessing and always being ashamed of it. Payton was born this way for a reason and we won’t let anyone stop in our way to prove that.
