Alicia Torrealba is 51 years old and has recently been diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease."  The news was devastating to Alicia and our family.  The initial shock is still with all of us.  She is going to fight this disease head on and will need donations to assist her in paying for all things related to this battle including any conventional and non-conventional means of treating the symptoms and progression of ALS.

This disease is neurodegenerative in nature.  She first started experiencing some unusual symptoms like weakness in her right arm/shoulder area.  She also developed weakness and pain in her arm, back and hands.  There was an initial fall while just walking that could not be explained.  She began to have difficulty with speech and everyday activities.  Walking and balance are very difficult and the pain progresses.  After a battery of tests performed at her local hospital and a total of 3 neurologist consultations with their own set of tests she has been diagnosed officially as of November 2013.

When someone is diagnosed with this disease it is a very frightening and frustrating experience as you can imagine.  Most medical facilities are not capable of treating or assisting with this disease and most are referred to the Mayo Clinic here in the US.  It is rare statistically and the medical community does not fully understand why or how this disease takes hold.  Alicia currently lives in Santiago, Chile and she has been told by her doctors to prepare for a difficult battle with this disease.  A group of family members are assisting with all things related to available treatment, clinical trials and logistics for carrying out all available options.

Alicia has a heart of gold.  She's extremely loving, generous, passionate and full of life.  She always has been.  She has always helped her friends and family with open arms.  Now she needs everyones help to fight this disease not only through emotional support but also financially.  Medical and living expenses snowball with this disease as it progresses.

Please help my sister Alicia by donating today.  This is the fight of her life and she needs your help.  We thank you in advance for your generosity and support for her!
