Please help us cure poor Dew's appalling sarcoptic mange which Thais
call wet mange. The painful weeping sores have now spread over most
of Dew's body leaving her in considerable pain. As soon as I saw red
patches appear on her hind quarters I took immediate action
.
Initially I wasn't convinced that it was mange as the sores didn't
have the strong mange smell which is unmistakable. I treated Dew with
coconut oil and cream together with anti-fungal cream hoping it was a
skin disease. The sores started to dry out and heal making me sure
I'd caught the infection in time. I was wrong.
The next day two nasty sores appeared on her neck which I treated but
instead of healing the entire area between and behind her ears erupted
in appalling bloody sores. Then the mange smell came so Dew was
quickly taken to the vet who confirmed sarcoptic or wet mange. The
vet prescribed Ivermectine medication to be taken orally for 3 weeks
plus shampoos and creams. I started giving her Ivermectine and gently
spread coconut oil on the infected area. In addition Dew had 5 days
of anti-biotic injections and anti-inflamatory medication. Each day
the mange spread leaving her in terrible pain. She had a high
temperature and couldn't eat very much so I gave her a range of
vitamins. The next pictures clearly illustrate the appalling sores
with pus which spread over almost all her body.
I
put a soft collar on her to stop her scratching but it didn't help
much. Secondary infections set in giving Dew even more pain so when
she scratched she screamed aswell. Eventually I put a light jacket on
her to stop her scratching directly onto her sores.
This helped and happily now she constantly only licks her skin . 3
weeks on the redness has started to abate but she is still very
lethargic and unwell with a slight temperature. It's heartbreaking to
see her looking so sad and ill lying in her bed all day. In the
morning she shivers even with a rug over her
as she has no fur to keep her warm. I've now used up all the coconut
oil and desperately need more and any other natural treatments such as
Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera Oil and shampoos. Ellie has already ordered
some treatment shampoo which she is kindly sending from Australia. If
any of you caring Facebook Friends and Headrock Dogs supporters can
help Dew recover from this horribly painful mange with natural
treatments or vitamins or donations so I can buy the treatments I
would be so grateful. Dew is normally a very pretty little dog with a
glossy black coat who loves to run around and especially loves to
catch mice. Please help us get Dew back to her former self
