On May 26, 2010, DeKalb County Architect, Anthony (Tony) Pope was indicted on a charge of violation of racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations act – conducting and participating in an enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity. The indictment claims Tony unlawfully benefited from public construction contracts for personal financial gain.  The State claims that a Conflict of Interest existed because of Tony’s previously awarded contracts to provide design services for the school system and also claimed he was not eligible to compete for new business opportunities with DeKalb County Schools System (DCSS) due to a personal relationship with the then current COO. However, DeKalb County’s legal team informed Tony that he could complete projects already in progress; and then further informed him that he could serve as a sub-consultant on DCSS projects. Tony is an honest man and a man of integrity.  He has endured an investigation, with which he has fully cooperated, since 2008. His practice has suffered due to the inability to obtain local and state government contracts as well as the inability to find firms to partner or associate with him on commissionable projects.  This prosecution threatens to ruin Tony both professionally and financially. Tony has chosen to fight these charges vigorously.  He has retained the legal group of J. Tom Morgan, Attorney, LLC to represent him in the criminal case and Jennifer M. Daniels, PC to represent him in the civil matter of Heery-Mitchell vs. DeKalb County School System.  Tony’s legal expenses are immense and are estimated to reach at least $250,000.  To date, through depletion of his savings and retirement funds as well as contributions from others, he has paid $65,000 towards his defense. Tony has helped and continues to help many people in DeKalb County. He now faces the greatest challenge of his lifetime. Tony’s family, friends, and coworkers have formed the TONY POPE LEGAL DEFENSE FUND. We need to raise at least $185,000 so that Tony and his attorneys can mount the most high-powered and effective legal defense possible. We really need your donations NOW to begin preparations for the upcoming trial. A DONATION of $25, $50, $100, $500, $1,000 or any amount that you can give is greatly appreciated. To help support Tony’s Legal Defense, there are two options for giving to the defense fund: 1. DONATE using Paypal with the button on the sidebar 2. Send a check, payable to J. Tom Morgan, Attorney LLC, c/o Tony Pope Legal Defense Fund at the following address: Tony Pope Legal Defense Fund P.
