Thanks for all your support of AIU and Dusty Hardman, a runner who also happens to be adrenal insufficient ran in the “Last Annual Vol-State Road Race in the Summer of 2012.

”Fast Facts:
*Adrenal Insufficiency occurs when the body can’t produce enough cortisol, the "stress hormone,” which is vital to life.

*People with AI must take daily steroids (hydrocortisone) to replace the cortisol they lack.

*When illness or injury strikes, healthy people require up to 10 times the normal amount of cortisol just to maintain normal functions--like blood pressure and blood sugar--until the illness has passed, or the injury has been treated.

*Because people with adrenal insufficiency don’t produce enough cortisol, an immediate emergency dose of hydrocortisone is necessary during times of stress or injury to prevent an adrenal crisis, which can quickly lead to shock, heart failure, disability and even death.

BUT--the awareness of HOW to treat, and the MEDICATION (liquid hydrocortisone) to treat an adrenal crisis is not readily available to all who need it.

AIU’s goal is to change that--and we need your help! A donation of .10 per Kilometer would equal a $50 donation. Sponsorships in any amount are welcome!

Proceeds will enable AIU to attend the Fire-Rescue International conference (linked below) and others like it.
