On December, 15., 1944 1 Lt Jack Martin Jarrell jr. flew a armed reconnaissance mission in the Wiesbaden/Germany area. He flew in a P-38-J-10, (370th Fighter Group, 485th Fighter Squadron), Serial 42-67940.

The 485th Fighter Squadron had fighting with Messerschmitt Me Bf 109. 1 Lt Jarrells aircraft was hit, smoke came out of his aircraft and five minutes later flames. 1Lt Jarrell jumped out of his aircraft, his chute opened and he was last seen landing in trees in the area. His chute was seen to hang on the treetops.

This is the last time he was seen. Since this day he is "Missing in Action". His name will be found on the "Walls of the Missing" on the American War Cemetery Ardennes.

A few days ago Uwe Benkel, chief of "Arbeitsgruppe Vermisstenforschung" "Search MIA" was contacted and asked for assistance to help finding out what happened after the landing of 1Lt Jarrell jr. and if possible to locate his remains and bring him back home. Benkel is also in contact with Jarrells niece, Gloria C..

The search for missing 1Lt Jack M. Jarrell jr. will probably take some time. Benkel and his team have to travel in the area where he was last seen. He also will try to find eyewitnesses. All of this costs a lot of money and there is no support from the government, the team has to pay everything out of his own earned money.

"We will do our best to locate the remains of 1Lt Jarrell jr. and inform the american military and also Gloria C. She finally wants for him to be taken back home and find a grave on a cemetery. Not a memory on the "Wall of the Missing", Uwe Benkel says..

All american citizens and friends of Uwe Benkel and his team are welcome to support the search for missing 1Lt Jarrell jr.. The american officials can't do research on all 70.000 missing american soldiers of World War II at once. Thats why Benkel and his team are donig this job.
