Two years ago Merlin joined the colony of stray cats that I had been looking after since I moved to Cyprus. He probably had already experienced the tough life of living in the street as he had an old injury on the nose and a limping leg (both probably from an old accident)...still he was so friendly and affectionate from the first day, as if nothing bad ever happened to him. Since then he became a regular visitor of my garden for his daily meal and cuddles. Last november his nose started bleeding and getting ulceration. He was initially treated for Cryptococcus and with antibiotic to control the infection. For few months it seemed to have improved but then it started bleeding again and getting infected so I had decided to do a biopsy...and the terrible result came "nose squamous cell carcinoma". Unfortunately, this type of cancer is very aggressive and fast growing and Merlin will not have much to live if we do not operate him soon.
Nasal planum resection (=surgical removal of the nose) can be very successful if performed at an early stage and can give to Merlin several more years to live happily.
Merlin is a young and sweet boy and he deserve to be given a chance!
