Vilniuje bus įamžintas istorinio miesto valdovo M.K.

ūrinio ženklo atsiradimą Vilniaus miesto centre inicijavo VšĮ „Gold of Lithuania“, kuri surengė istorinę rekonstrukcinę kelionę M. K. Radvilos-Našlaitėlio keliais aplink Viduržemio jūrą 2009-2011 metais. Tikimasi, kad puikiai visose kultūrose atpažįstama vėjų rožė taps nauju Vilniaus kultūros ir turizmo traukos tašku.

Jūrinio ženklo atsiradimą Vilniaus miesto centre inicijavo VšĮ „Gold of Lithuania“, kuri surengė istorinę rekonstrukcinę kelionę M. K. „Įgydamas jūrinį miesto ženklą “Vilniaus Kompasą – vėjų rožę" – Vilnius tampa dar vienu žingsniu arčiau jūros, modernių pasaulio sostinių, kuriose gyvena laisvi, drąsūs ir savo idėjomis tikintys žmonės“, - sako VšĮ „Gold of Lithuania“ vadovas Donatas Juškus.

TEXT IN ENGLISH:

During the project “Gold of Lithuania” (2009–2011) there were organized 3 sailing expeditions dedicated to the prince of the Holy empire, duke of Niaswiezh and Olyka, well known politician and diplomat of Lithuania, Nicolas Christopher Radziwill (1549–1616). More than 430 years ago he travelled to the Holy Land with a sailing boat to fulfil his mission. Later on he wrote a book named “The Trip to Holy Land, Syria and Egypt“, which became very popular in Europe in 16th century. It is estimated that there is more than 20 different editions of this book first published in Latin; the book was translated into Polish, German, Russian and Lithuanian languages.

This historical personality inspired young sailors to repeat the expedition and to sail the same route which was sailed hundreds of years ago. During the expedition giant Lithuanian flag (40 square meters) was raised in 60 most important ports of Mediterranean Sea and this is how historical and cultural events important to our country were marked. Also for young citizens of Europe it was the best opportunity to learn about European history and values.

“The aim of this historical expedition is to tell the ideological centres of Europe about the history of our country and its cultural phenomena” – this is how the importance of the expedition was grounded by the history professor of Vilnius University Professor and the Head of History Faculty Mr. Alfredas Bumblauskas, PhD. According to him, one can navigate to all the expedition ports under the name of M. K. Radziwill the Orphan with a serious mission: “Lithuania was the last to join Christian Europe, however, it is not the last one to contemplate the most relevant European ideas”.
Those who say that pilgrimage is old-fashioned in the twenty-first century are absolutely wrong. The initiative nucleus – the crew – was formed and it received the letters of credence of Vilnius city committing to announce news about Lithuania and about its worthy capital. Sailors sewed the flag by themselves, and believed that it could be useful in establishing and developing Lithuanian diplomatic, economic and cultural ties. And the dream became true.
From the chronicle of the expedition:

In 2009–2011 we navigated 7000 miles, spent 95 days at sea. We have sailed in the seven seas: the Adriatic, the Balearic, the Aegean, the Ionian, the Ligurian, the Tyrrhenian and the Mediterranean. We have visited 13 countries: Albania, Egypt, Gibraltar, Greece, Spain, Italy, Israel, Cyprus, Croatia, Malta, Monaco, France, Turkey. We visited 60 ports and held 45 diplomatic meetings with ambassadors and consuls, local governments, community and business organizations, and emigrant communities. The whole expedition was organized and attended by about 100 young people from Lithuania. Historical reconstructive trip "Gold of Lithuania” has received a huge attention from Lithuanian and international media.
