This plea for help is for my only brother, Terry. Many of you who will receive this know about Terry, where he is and most importantly how unjust the reality is that he lives in. For those of you who don’t, please continue to read along and I will explain.
On October 15, 1998, in Aurora, Colorado, Allan Connor was shot and he unfortunately died. That same evening two of Alan’s friends were shot and wounded. Ballistics confirmed there were two different guns used – these guns were never retrieved for physical evidence. Witness testimony states for the record that there were almost dozen people present at the fight that occurred that night but Terry, almost 20 years later is the only person in prison. The state of Colorado convicted Terry with hear say testimony, witness statements from people avoiding criminal charges and NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. Terry was convicted of one count of 1st degree murder and two counts of attempted murder, sentencing him to life with no possibility of parole.
When this tragic night happened, Terry was all of 18 years old. Terry had been abandoned by our father to survive on his own and left homeless. Terry found himself surrounded by all the wrong people, unstable and ultimately depressed. Terry originally from California, only was in Colorado because of our father which meant he had no other family to turn to. Terry was left to rely on the people he met while attending high school in Aurora that he thought were his friends. On more than one occasion I asked my brother to return to California he just didn’t. I believe in Terry’s heart he felt he could beat his horrible circumstances without having to run to big sister to solve all his problems.
My brother has been incarcerated in Sterling County Correctional Facility for 16 years and prior to his conviction he refused his right to a speedy trial and was jailed waiting for over two years. After an intensive review of evidence, trial transcripts and interviews with Terry, by a defense attorney hired by my stepmother, Toni, the attorney determined that the public defender that represented Terry didn’t provide him with a proper defense as the judicial system requires. On March 24th a judge validated the attorney’s findings and granted Terry a hearing scheduled for this summer to present the evidentiary findings all with the hopes of changing Terry’s conviction.
I created this campaign because the legal expenses for Terry’s legal defense have grown tremendously as the appeal progresses, so much that my stepmother can no longer afford the fees on her own. Even with my assistance there is still a great deal of money that will be needed to fulfill the costs of the lawyer and his resources.
Anyone who knows me knows I am always the giver and never the taker but in that same knowledge of me everyone knows the depth of my love for my only sibling and how I would do anything I can to change his circumstances.
Any contribution to Terry’s defense will mean the world to my family and I. We are humbled by our own personal circumstances and this very unfortunate one we share. With all my heart I appreciate your time to gain knowledge of my story and any efforts made on my brother’s behalf.
You will be in my heart forever,
TeNesha Mosley
