On December 1, 1998, a twenty year old Corey Todd was hired as an uncertified detention deputy for the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Department of Detention. Less than a year later, Corey received his State Certification in Corrections after completing the Basic Recruit Program at the Indian River State College Criminal Justice Training Institute. Deputy Todd was assigned to operations and continued his education, obtaining his Law Enforcement Certification in 2001.

In 2003, Deputy Todd transferred to the Transportation Unit for the Department of Detention, where he continues to serve. Deputy Todd is credited by his supervisor for the implementation of many new ideas that have organized the Transportation Unit, ensuring more efficient operations. He is described as a hard worker, always willing to lend a hand to his coworkers, both on and off duty.

With seventeen years of law enforcement experience under his belt, this father of two little boys, ages four and six, is perhaps fighting the greatest battle of them all. Deputy Todd has been diagnosed with leukemia and in October 2014 underwent a bone marrow transplant at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Deputy Todd’s wife, Wendi and his mother, providing around the clock care until he was able to return home.  

Deputy Todd is known for helping others, and in this small way, we were able to help him. Reports are that Deputy Todd is doing well and is eager to return home and ready to get back to work.   Please continue to keep Deputy Todd and his family in your thoughts and prayers with best wishes for his continued recovery.
