I am hoping that you guys can help me out with raising some money for my daughter. This is really hard for me to do because as you know when you are a parent you think you should be able to solve all of the problems that your kids have on your own. However I am just not able to fix this one…My daughter Hilary is 32, at age 7 she ran a fever and from that time on she has been progressively more and more disabled, physically. She is diagnosed with idiopathic torsion dystonia, a fancy name for a very disabling muscle condition. At this point I have done my best with the services available for her, she has her own apartment in Knightdale, She works at the Walgreens in Zebulon and goes to school at Wake Tech. She gets in home care and in the community so she can be as productive as possible. My husband I are getting older and the big issue is transportation. She uses a wheelchair but I need a wheelchair van so she can leave her apartment or my house and get directly into the vehicle. Right now we have to transfer her from the chair and then fold her manual chair and put it in the car. She has a beautiful power wheelchair but it cannot go into a vehicle so it just sits in the apartment unless she takes it to Walmart or somewhere close by. She can’t use it for work, school or the mall at this point. She is very socially isolated but loves to get out. Her favorite things are Taylor Swift and WWE, specifically John Cena. We go to movies and try to do things with her but since her condition is worsening it is harder every day. I’m trying to raise enough money to get a wheelchair van, probably from Van Products in Raleigh but there really is no funding source for this type of thing. She gets disability but by the time we pay rent and utilities on the apartment there is very little left over for a vehicle. These vans are very expensive since they have to remove the floor of the van, they lower it and install to ramping system. If you look at their site you wouldn’t believe how expensive these vans are. I read about this site called gofundme.com, there are pictures of Hilary on there and it is a site that people can make donations to. They do take a percentage of the donations so if people don’t like that idea they could mail a check. I know you have so many listeners out there that would help if only they knew about Hilary. She is the most special person, everyone who is lucky enough to have met her knows how strong she is especially to carry the burden that this illness puts on her and her family. Of course my eyes are filling with tears while I’m writing this…I know you guys help a lot of people who have been through a tragedy or fallen on very hard times. Well this is hard times and a tragedy for our family. Please feel free to contact me or my husband and anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Norm and Regina Toussaint 1014 Delta River Way Knightdale NC 27545
