Rosalinde Tropper hasn't added a story.
Meet Petunia, a very friendly and socialized 2 yr old Farm pig located in Anza, CA. She just showed up one day on my friend's property about a month ago. When my friend first contacted the owner, she said that she did not want Petunia back but then changed her mind the following day and arranged to pick her up when she was coming home from vacation. Her plan was to either BREED her or SELL her as a meat pig. My friend ended up fostering Petunia for one full week until that Sunday when the owner came to get her back. Of course during this time, my friend had already fallen in love with this girl and was really hoping for the owner to change her mind...but she didn't...my friend actually had to help walk Petunia home that day as she refused to walk past her property without her guidance...Petunia surely enjoyed the company of my friend and her many chickens ...poor girl was just locked up inside an 8x10 pen 24/7 all by herself, her pen is set up far away from their main house :/ My friend would text me the following morning telling me how much she already missed Petunia...how she enjoyed the morning walks with her and overall companionship. Well, not a full two weeks went by and I get a Text from her saying "She's back! :)" I asked if she was surrendered or if she had escaped again. She said that she just saw this big white body walking towards her from the distance in the morning dew...it was Petunia grunting happily at her!! My friend said she had left two messages on the owner's machine but no return calls, so she said " She is mine now"...only worries for her is financially...property is not fenced, no real house to protect from elements etc...See, my friend is in her early 70's and lives alone on 10 + acres and she has always loved all animals and used to have a couple horse who have passed on since from old age and she also used to rescue dogs years ago when she was still working. But she is now on a (tight) fixed monthly income (SS) and wasn't prepared to take on a "big" responsibility! Though she loves Petunia dearly and certainly has the property, she just feels guilty that she can't provide her with a nice big warm house that will protect her not only from the cold and wet/snow but from the brutal winds as well. Fencing is another issue as she is afraid that Petunia will wander off one day and end up in the wrong hands!! I have looked for possible homes for her but nobody wants to adopt Farm pigs. From what I understand, having Farm pigs isn't cheap!! They are expensive to feed and can be destructive just because of their size... though my friend doesn't seem to mind that. Petunia really is LUCKY to have found a Home. Now if we could just help with providing Petunia with a warm sturdy house and some kind of fencing, electrical fencing has been suggested by other Farm Pig Sanctuaries...and maybe even a monthly sponsor towards her food (I hear they eat at least 8-9 cups of pig food daily)....I know my friend will be able to keep her!! She just really wants what is best for Petunia and feels guilty when she has to put her in a 12X24 pen when she has to run errands. I am really hoping to raise enough money to make this happen!! If we don't, where will Petunia go?!? <<<Feeling sad...
