Linda Lemay hasn't added a story.
Hello! I am Penny. I am Linda's sister and I am helping her set up her fundrazr! I would like to tell you about her journey to see again. Linda has Stargaardts Disease and over the past fifteen years has lost a great deal of her vision and is now legally blind.
Through the research of her friend, eSight eyewear was discovered.
What is eSight eyewear?
eSight is a Canadian company based out of Ottawa that develops digital eyewear that enables people with low vision or legal blindness to actually see. Looking much like fit-over sunglasses, eSight eyewear uses an advanced, high-resolution video camera to capture what the wearer is looking at and delivers those video images to a controller with a highly sophisticated computer. For further information please feel free to visit their website: www.esighteyewear.com
Linda went to Ottawa for an eSight assessment. She qualified to be fitted for this special vision aid. These glasses made a huge difference in what she is able to see compared to the regular glasses she currently has for day to day use. She was finally able to see images on a page again and with the training that comes with the glasses she will be able to see more in the near future!
How does eSight eyewear help a person with low vision/blindness?
Even in damaged or diseased eyes, the eSight-enhanced image causes the remaining photoreceptors to send an improved signal to the brain.
What Features are included in eSight eyewear?
Magnification from 1.5x to 14x - Auto-focus enables the wearer to
quickly change their view Separate contrast and brightness features
accommodate different lighting
Freeze capability allows the
wearer to capture a still shot of an image
Six custom color
modes help the wearer make reading easier
Software is easily
updated via computer to keep eSight current
Customized with the
wearers own prescription lenses
Unique tilt feature enables the
wearer to alternate between walking and stationary activities like
reading or watching TV.
The picture you see here is of Linda with Mac and BJ Marcoux (Multi-medalists in the Sochi 2014 Winter Para-Olympics) Mac also has Stargaardts Disease. They met up with her to sign shirts for the fundraiser we had in town. They are very supportive of her getting the glasses and regaining some of her sight. Linda would love to read books, go to the movies, browse music stores, have her independence and most of all, be able to see the faces and expressions of her friends and family.
The cost for the “eSight eyewear” is $9,750.00, which is not covered under government or private insurance. In order to enable Linda to purchase these glasses, we are establishing this fundraising site and hope you will help Linda on her journey to see again.
