A Dressage Dream...
My name is Eva Larsen and I'm a 15-year old with the passion of many girls who have grown up wanting a horse to ride every day. My trainer, Carolyn Adams, recently made this dream a reality for me. She has given me the opportunity to ride her Welsh Pony stallion (Laffran Sponti, affectionately called 'Ari') to further my learning and to compete in the sport of dressage.
I've only been riding Ari since the spring of 2013 but, under Carolyn's tutelage, we've already achieved many milestones in those short 12 months. At our most recent show on March 9, 2014, Ari and I scored over 69% in two Second Level tests. This year, Ari and I are attempting to qualify and compete at the United States Equestrian Federation's (USEF) National Dressage Pony Rider Championships, held on June 12-15, 2014 in Gladstone, New Jersey. In order to qualify, we must compete in at least three qualifying competitions in our region and be one of the top 12 scoring pony/rider pairs in the entire country!
For the division in which Ari and I are competing - the FEI Pony Division - riders must be between 12- 16 years old. Because I will turn 16 later this year, this will be my one-and-only chance to compete at the National Dressage Pony Rider Championships, and to be the West Coast's first pony/ rider pair at the USEF Championships.
I've been working hard and saving money, but I still need your help. I need to raise $2,090 by April 25th in order to submit my entry forms for the four (4) qualifying Bay Area competitions: Rancho Murrieta (April 3-6); Star Vaughan Equestrian in Elk Grove (May 9-11); Woodside Equestrian in Woodside (May 16-18); and C. Noelting Dressage in Vacaville (May 24-25).
And that's just the first step. If Ari and I qualify for the Championships, we face the daunting task of getting to Gladstone, New Jersey, where the national competition will be held. This means flying Ari by special freight plane to Newark and trailering to Gladstone. This means flying Ari by special freight plane to Newark and trailering to Gladstone. Flying is both the safest and most economical method of transport, but will cost between $9,000 and $10,000 (based on quotes from IRT Horse Transport and Tex Sutton Horse Transport). Plus, there will be the expense of trailering to and from the airport, stabling and hotel. So, if we if we qualify, I'll need to raise an additional $12,000 to cover all our expenses. So, if we qualify, I'll need to raise an additional $12,000 to cover all our expenses.
I am asking for your support in any amount you can give to help make our dream of competing on the national stage a reality.
This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not only would Ari and I be the very first pair from the West Coast to compete in the FEI Pony Division, we would be the first pony/rider combination to represent California at the USEF Championships.
I am so grateful to have the opportunity to ride such a talented pony and train with such an amazing, gifted trainer. I hope I can use this opportunity to become a representative of the sport I love, and a role model for other young girls who aspire to ride. With a little help from people like you, they too might someday compete at the national level. Additionally, it's my hope that Ari and I can serve as proud ambassadors for our region and for the FEI Pony Division.
Thank you so much for your consideration and support.
