On the 16th of July, I will be travelling approx. 10,000 miles to the Kanungu region, Uganda for 6 weeks.Whilst here, I will be teaching English, Maths and Science- using my Art to make them more fun and engaging than normal classes would be. Poor education has lead to perhaps Uganda's greatest development challenge.

By teaching children in classrooms and interacting with them in the playgrounds, I hope to inspire so many young people to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams.

I will be involved in running a community HIV/AIDS Outreach Projects. Where I will be trained to deliver highly engaging assmblies aimed to raise awareness and educate young people about HIV and AIDS.

Since 2007, Volunteer Uganda has developed education in the area by building new schools, providing volunteers within these schools, and delivering teacher training to local teachers. Thanks to its supporters, Volunteer Uganda also sponsors hundreds of children to attend these schools. The barriers to a successful education such as clean water & malaria are actively being reduced, and initiatives to create opportunities for local people through micro finance & enterprise are in place.

Uganda is 35% below the poverty line, with a literacy rate of only 66%. 70% of people in Kanungu District are educated to primary level but not beyond. Only 13% of the population in Kanungu District are educated at Secondary Level or beyond. Education is the most empowering tool to assist Uganda to continue to grow and develop as a nation. It is something that we all take for granted on a day to day basis.

Any money that you so kindly donate, will go towards changing the lives of many children and giving them the gift of education so they can better their lives.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Thanks in anticipation,

Anna xx.
