Most animal lovers are quite familiar with the annual vet checkup and the cost that goes with it for annual exam, vaccine boosters, heartworm and flea preventives, fecal exams (personally, I spend about $300-$400, per dog). Imagine having that every week or so! We provide each and every one of our rescue animals with the same care we get for our own pets. In a perfect world, this wouldn't be so burdensome, given the fact that our "income" of the adoption donations offsets these costs. Unfortunately, we live in a FAR FROM PERFECT WORLD. The animals we rescue are almost always infected with something from the common parasite, such as roundworms, to the very expensively cured, heartworm. I could go into a very long-winded diatribe of how unnecessary this is and how ignorant people are, etc, however the bottom line is that our costs outweigh our "income" of donations by FAR. We do our best to fundraise as often as possible, but we are frequently behind on our bills, as is the case right now.

To add to this burden, we learned today that a gorgeous Husky mix mama dog that arrived here in NJ yesterday (Crystal) is heartworm positive. Treatment is VERY expensive and we are looking at a bill of AT LEAST $500 (IF we get lucky!) on top of the rest of our routine expenses for vaccines, etc. We realize it's the holiday season when most budget's are already stretched to the limit, but if you can find it within your wallet to contribute to our vet bill fund, please do so, but do so only if finances allow! I have found my heart strings pulled many times and then realized I really couldn't afford to donate what I had.

We wish everyone a happy & healthy holiday season, including each of our rescue animals. ;) Bless you all!!!!
