Aloha Friend of KCAA,
As we enter the holiday season, I am writing to share a story about KCAA Preschools and the work that we do. It is with the financial support of many KCAA donors that we continue to help children like “Kayla.”
Early each morning, four-year old Kayla arrives at school eagerly looking forward to her day at KCAA. Kayla enjoys working on her journal, art projects painting and coloring and playing in the classroom drama area. In her second year at KCAA, Kayla likes to participate in Circle time, be with her classmates and make new friends.
Kayla is one of almost a thousand young children who attend KCAA Preschools every year and benefit from an environment that encourages children to explore, learn and grow. True to our mission, KCAA strives to build a solid foundation for Hawaii’s children through excellent early childhood education programs that prepare children to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.
Recently, Kayla’s 19-year old sister was given temporary custody because both parents are no longer able to care for Kayla. Her sister Kristin is a college freshman and has had a difficult time balancing the added responsibility of caring for Kayla with attending school and working at her part-time job. Kristin is thankful that KCAA has provided a secure place and consistent schedule for Kayla during this difficult time.
It is important that Kayla continues to attend KCAA. As Kristin remarked, “I feel so much better because Kayla is in a safe and stable environment. It also gives me a chance to get back to my studies knowing that Kayla is surrounded by caring teachers who we can rely on to help and guide us.”
KCAA is committed to supporting the children and families that we serve not only in the classroom, also in living their daily lives. Thanks to the help of Kayla’s experienced preschool Director who referred the family to local social service agencies Kayla and her sister will be able to complete this school year.
