Bob Mummey's Run for Life

Help Bob Mummey in his Run for Life benefiting the World Children's Transplant Fund. Your donations provide the opportunity for life-saving organ transplants to children of the world. Please Donate Today!

My goal is to help raise money to support the World Children's Transplant Fund. I have decided the best way to shed light on this organization is to train hard and to finish a half-ironman triathlon and seek the support of people like you.

My name is Bob Mummey and I plan on completing a 70.3 mile race as part of my 70th birthday celebration this coming October. I became involved with WCTF in part, from my own experience with the organ donation process. I am an uncle of an organ donor and I have worked with organizations that deal with organ donation. I am also a member of the WCTF Board of Director as well as Fundacion Mundial de Trasplantes Capitulo in Guadalajara Mexico.

The goals of WCTF are to teach transplant surgeons, in their countries, the special techniques of organ transplantation for children, to provide specialized equipment to perform these surgeries, to establish self-sustaining organizations, to provide accurate information about organ donation and to provide support for donor families. The man in the photo at right is Dr. Frederico Sanchez. He is the president of the WCTF in Mexico and has performed leading edge operations to save the lives of many children. We want to help him and others like him to share their life saving skills and knowledge.

I've had my own medical challenges. Five years ago I lost my left kidney to a malignant tumor and the remaining kidney is stage-three diseased. It works at half capacity. Three years ago I had a very rare malignant tumor on my right eye. I underwent two months of chemotherapy and both conditions are stable today. It has been a difficult road for me to get here but I am constantly inspired by all of the support I have had from those around me.

On Sunday October 20, 2013 I will be racing in the Soma Triathlon in Tempe, Arizona. This grueling event consists of a 1.25 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride and ends with a 13.1 mile half marathon run. With the help of my doctors, trainers, family and friends I am approaching this event with excitement, fear and determination.

I write this because I am grateful beyond words for the opportunities given to me. I hope you are inspired to help the children. Please celebrate with me by giving your support to children through the WCTF. Just give what you can. You can donate specifically to this event by clicking the button at the top of this page. Thank you for your support to me, to the WCTF and to the children of our world.
