Care for Lazarus
Hi, my name is Lazarus and I am a very special kitty. I was rescued at approximately 10 weeks old while I was wandering around Johnson City, Tennessee. I have a primary cleft palate and nasal area. Numerous doctors are shocked that I am alive. I guess you could say I am a miracle kitty. Even though I have a very noticeable disability, I am very playful, loving, and exceptionally sweet. I have learned to eat and do all of the necessary things kitties must do. My parents think I am awesome and want to help me. Given the nature of my condition, I will need precautionary medical treatment to prevent future health problems (e.g., medicine, surgery). UPDATE January 2013
This year was a big year for me! I went to the vet a lot trying to treat infection that existed in my mouth. I stayed on medicine and ended up having surgery at the University of Tennessee to see where my teeth follicle were growing in my mouth, to clean out the infection, and to extract any bad teeth. I no longer have any upper K9s, which make my bottom ones look really big like a bulldog. People from all over the world have been so supportive of me during this process. At this point my parents aren't proceeding with any additional surgeries because I haven't shown a need for them. They say at this point the surgery would be cosmetic versus medically necessary. The day may always come when I need to proceed with a second procedure. The fund that has been established here has helped my parents provide me with the medical care I've need so far related to my cleft palate. The fund has also supported other rescue animals' medical procedures (e.g., closing the eye socket of a kitten born with one eye). Thank you again for making 2012 awesome and I hope we can do the same in 2013! God Bless!
