Why should you support this Project?
This is a major independent investigative journalism project, and I don’t have any institutional support from mainstream media publications, any grants from nonprofit charitable organizations, or any deep pocketed backers to provide the necessary funding for the project. In order to complete this project, I need your support. This project will require countless hours of investigative research, data collection, and creation of interactive visualizations, and your support will ensure I have the time, focus, and resources to complete this project.
About the Project
The conservative movement has developed a radical plan for implementing right-wing policies and undermining democratic institutions during a possible second term of Donald Trump: Project 2025. This plan represents a playbook for far right authoritarian takeover of American government. The plan would remove policies related to climate change and environmental, implement policies restricting access to reproductive healthcare, eliminate protections for LGBQI+ and transgender rights, and seek to concentrate a dangerous amount of power within the executive branch.
While there has been reporting and analysis of the plan's governing vision, policy proposals, and potential impact, there has not been a comprehensive investigation into the organizations and individuals that developed the plan and how they are connected. This project will create a detailed interactive mapping of the organizations and individuals behind Project 2025, providing a clear picture of the relationships and connections between the right-wing activists that are seeking to implement a far right dystopian version of government.

Analysis of Project 2025
- "Project 2025 envisions a federal government that denies the existence of transgender people, undermines the rights of same-sex married couples and dismantles services for LGBTQ+ Americans wherever possible, primarily via the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which the Heritage Foundation proposes renaming the Department of Life. The plan calls for the newly named agency to take the official stance that families are made up of a married father and mother and children and to redirect federal funds to support a 'biblically based' definition of family." [Amanda Becker, Orion Rummler, and Darreonna Davis, The 19th]
- "...proposes a dramatically defunded NOAA whose husk is nonetheless hyper-responsive to the administration’s politics. And commercializing the agency’s underlying data risks creating a system of tiered services. One could imagine a future where private outfits charge subscriptions for their weather reports, and only some municipalities are able to pay for the best forecasts. Private companies are also subject to commercial conflicts of interest; do we want flood-risk predictions sponsored by a flood-insurance company, or heat advisories from an air-conditioning conglomerate?" [Zoë Schlanger, The Atlantic]
