They said spinal surgery would fix me.
My late teens. Spinal surgery was supposed to give me my life back. To walk, and drive, and interact with the world. To allow my arm to function properly. To take the load off my parents, my family. To get my life back.
The doctors were wrong. I got worse. And then surgery took away my ability to support my own body. Complications meant I walked into surgery, but I didn't walk out - I rolled out in a wheelchair. I was supposed to be preparing for college, and instead I had to learn to feed myself again. I was supposed to go to college and help my folks. But now I was a burden.
The vaccine devastated my nervous system. It changed the way my body knew how to communicate with itself. It left me broken, damaged, a shell of the vibrant woman I dreamt of being. I could no longer get the younger kids ready for school, or help them with their schoolwork. I was just trying to learn to use my legs again.
I did what I thought was right - Grams was old and I didn't want to get her sick. But I traded my own life. She is safe, but I can't look after the kids, and my dad gets stressed and angry when they act up. CPS showed up last night, and told me without help I am unfit to look after my sisters and brother. I don't know what to do.
My uncle's wife said if I can find enough to help cook and clean a little, I should be okay and I would likely pass the requirements to get the kids back. I have a lead on a remote work position where I can work part-time from home. But we are close to three months late on rent and I'm worried we might get evicted before I can get a paycheck.
Please don't let them keep my brother and little sisters away. I just need some help to get back on our feet. If there is an angel who can help with $2735, that would cover two months' rent and utilities. And anything extra would help pay last month and help buy groceries while I wait for my first check.
