I know a woman who is in desperate need of financial help, I’ll call her Jane because she didn’t ask for this help and she doesn’t know I’m doing this. Jane is 60 years old with grown children who are out of the house. She works as an entry level admin for a small company and makes a very meager salary – enough that if she was on her own she could scrape by. She is one the most kind, generous, and selfless people I have ever met and anyone who knows her will say the same. Recently, one of Jane’s grown daughters became unable to take care of her own three kids. Without a second thought or question Jane took them in to raise. They are wonderfully kind and loving just like their grandmother and have taken all of it in stride. Jane has become their mother, father, counselor, teacher, nurse and sole supporter.

The circumstances of the situation have prevented Jane from getting much government assistance for raising her grandkids. She does get help with food and some supplies for the kids (like clothes and school supplies) but the extra financial burden and some recent setbacks (car trouble, and medical issues) have raised the situation to critical. She is unable to pay her utility bills and rent having exhausted all of her reserves and retirement . Her grown children can’t help her financially and she is down to nothing in the bank.

She and the kids are looking to move into a more economical house/apartment that she can afford, but she can’t even pay her current bills, let alone cover the expense of moving. Jane has never asked for financial help and is a very strong and proud woman. I only found out about her need when she finally broke down crying to me recently. She’s never said a harsh word about any of our friends or her family, even through this incredibly tough situation.

There’s a lot more to the story leading up to this situation but it's irrelevant to the need at hand. What matters is that she and the kids are incredible people and they desperately need help. They need help paying the bills (power, water, gas) getting money to move to a better place, and if we can raise enough, give the kids a really nice Christmas. I can’t think of a more wonderful group of people that deserve this help.
