Our youngest son Tommy was diagnosed earlier this year with Aspergers. Some people ask exactly what Aspergers is. Asperger's syndrome, also called Asperger's disorder, is a type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). PDDs are a group of conditions th More ...

At the age of 2, our youngest child had a febrile seizure which caused his temp to raise to 105 and he was rendered unconscious for approximately 3 minutes until the paramedics arrived to revive him.  At approximately at the age of 4, he began displaying behaviors which were not considered in the realm of being a child who was progressing the way he should have been.  He has had developmental delays, and is considered to be 2 years behind his age and grade level.  Upon entering school, he was not on the same level as most children, and was not grasping concepts that other children were at the age appropriate settings.  Earlier this year he was finally diagnosed with ASD, and through work with the school social worker and other authorities, we have had him in a program to help him get through his daily life and routines.  Just recently, we were alerted to the fact that he needs extensive therapy to help him maintain a normal life, and along with ASD he has severe mood swings, and temper tantrums that of a 2 year old.  We have found a very good pediatric psychiatrist/psychologist team to help us with this, and the only down fall is that our insurance does not cover our costs.  Every visit out of pocket is roughly anywhere between $100-$200, which has drained our pockets and therefore the reason for me starting this campaign.

Asperger's syndrome, also called Asperger's disorder, is a type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). PDDs are a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of many basic skills, most notably the ability to socialize with others, to communicate, and to use imagination.

Although Asperger's syndrome is similar in some ways to autism -- another, more severe type of PDD -- there are some important differences. Children with Asperger's syndrome typically function better than do those with autism. In addition, children with Asperger's syndrome generally have normal intelligence and near-normal language development, although they may develop problems communicating as they get older. We are extending this campaign in an effort to help him have the best quality of life he can through therapy and treatments with regards to getting him properly socialized as a young child, so that he can get through his adult life with little or no assistance.
