🇨🇦 The last time a Canadian Youth was sent to the Junior World Gliding Competition (JWGC) was in 2015. My goal is to change that. 

The sport of soaring (gliding, piloting an unpowered sailplane) is magnificent and awe-inspiring. This niche sport involves using mother nature (rising air, AKA 'thermals') to keep a sailplane aloft. Thermals allow for sustained, unpowered flight and ideally will keep a glider airborne for several hours and/or fly hundreds of kilometres.

My name is Joshua Peace, and I am a first generation avid, eager & passionate junior glider pilot obsessed with the sport of soaring. My gliding journey started in 2021 with my home club Cu Nim, near Diamond Valley, Alberta. I flew solo, obtained my licence, and started taking my friends and family on glider joyrides within that same year, all at the age of 16. Since then, I've remained a dedicated member of my club, coupled with devoted volunteering, (currently acting as the Club's Secretary) instructing and mentoring new students, all while focused on improving my XC soaring skills. 

I see a large opportunity to put Canada on the world stage at the upcoming JWGC. Ahead lays a chance to place well within the overall rankings, and improve my skills for the next competition so I can represent Canada to the best of my abilities.  

There is plenty more preparation to do as a team, and individually. Becoming a world tier glider pilot is no easy feat - this will require substantially more:

• local XC gliding 
• Provincial, National, and potentially Australian competitions 
• dedicated time learning to fly as a team

Donations will directly support:

• Coaching and training fees
• Competition entry fees
• Glider access (rental)
• Travel and accommodation for competitions
• Canada's presence at the 15th FAI JWGC

I am truly looking forward to the honour of a lifetime it will be to represent my Club, Country, and Canada's young aviators at the 15th FAI JWGC in Lake Keepit, Australia - January of 2029.
