It has been a very stressful (and expensive) month as 3 cats from my colony were taken to the emergency vet and hospitalised.
Pico was rushed to the vet with vomit and generally unwell and his blood tests were very worring with hicterus, low platelets, anemia. He was initially diagnosed and treated for haemobartonella. After 5 days his blood tests did not show any improvement so we also started treatment for FIP (it could not be confirmed 100% but given the fact that another of my cat is positive it was likely for him to have it too). We saw some improvement in bilirubin levels and platelets but the anemia was still very critical and did not seem to improve. Finally he was also given cortison and thankfully his red blood cells seems to be slowly rising now.
It has been a long roller coaster, he was hospitalised for 15 days and I went to visit him every day to convince him to eat a little, sometimes he did sometimes we had to forcefeed him.
Since last saturday he is finally home and we are both much happier...we know that we still have to fight and with love and patience hopefully we will win this battle!
