Ladislav is a Slovakian animal rights supporter imprisoned in the aftermath of an explosion in front of a McDonald’s on December 28, 2011. There were no injuries as a result of the incident. Actions that cause property damage, and explicitly avoid harming anyone, have been used in non-violent direct actions claimed by the Animal Liberation Front to promote awareness of the suffering of other species.

Ladislav was arrested on January 1, 2012. Originally sentenced to 25 years in 2014, in 2016 his case was returned to the district court, the 'terrorism' charges were dropped, and he was resentenced to 23.5 years. It was appealed and he was resentenced again in 2017 to 10 years. In the latest ruling in early 2018, his sentence was extended by 2 years bringing the total sentence to 12 years.

Finally, he was released on January 1, 2024! Ladislav has not been able to work or raise many funds since his incarceration and his family incurred significant expenses paying for his legal representation on the successful appeal. All donations will be sent to Ladislav to help him with basic expenses adjusting to life outside of prison and welcome him back with his family and community. He also has some outstanding legal fees we would love to cover for him and his family so he can focus on reuniting with them and getting back on his feet. Thank you for your generosity!

Our fundraising goal is currently $10,000 to cover the roughly 10.000 Euro debt that he accrued while he was in prison including approximately 4000 in legal fees (that went towards his successful sentence reduction appeal), as well as the Slovakian equivalent of social security that he is required to pay for the time he was unable to work in prison. These costs are on top of the normal financial strain of returning home after prison.
