Supporting the Education of Five New Student Monks.
We are seeking support for five new monks who have recently
arrived in our monastery here in Nepal, Gaden Kagyu Nyishar Chophel
Ling. We are a very small monastery with only a very small
population of resident monks therefore it was decided that in order
to provide a decent basic education for these boys, it would be best
to send them to the local school during the daytime for classes.
All five of the boys are from poor families in remote villages
of Nuwakot, Nepal. Here at the monastery, they will receive an
education in Dharma, but we feel that a basic secular education is
also important for these children.
Below is a breakdown of
the costs we are seeking to cover.
School expenses per student (In Nepali Rupees):
Exam fee: 2000
School uniform, including shoes: 4500
Book bag: 1000
School books: 2000
Stationery and school supplies: 3000
Total: 12,500
Around $100 per student. Total for all five students is just a little over $500.
