Joseph Farewell hasn't added a story.
My name is Joe, and I'm here to share my sister's incredible journey with you... from the day she broke her neck to the current situation while we work to get her to Columbia for treatment.
The Backstory: Becca has always lived a life of passion, following her dreams all over the country and world.
As a professional skydiver and tandem instructor she has over 7,000 successful jumps with never even a broken bone.
That all changed on July 7, 2021.
The day everything changed: On that afternoon she came in fast and hit the ground HARD. The next few days were a flurry of life flights, emergency surgeries, and a real time display of her incredible will to live.
As a result of her impact she shattered her C3 and C4 vertebra, had 3 lumber fractures, two broken eye sockets, a broken nose, and one gnarly black eye. In the weeks afterward she underwent multiple surgeries including spinal fusion and the installation of a pacemaker. She also suffered a stroke and multiple cardiac arrests due to the nerve and spinal cord damage.
After nearly a month in the University of Utah Neuro Critical Care Unit and 2 more months in their rehab center, Becca finally was released to home care.
The Current Situation: Becca is a fighter... everyday she pushes her body and mind to grow and is focused on changing the current reality. What is that reality? She's paralyzed and has almost no feeling from the shoulders down, requires a ventilator to breathe, and struggles with internal and external symptoms related to the spinal cord injury.
Since the day of the accident our parents have dropped everything to provide the 24/7 care Becca requires. My other sister, Elizabeth, and I have made dozens of trips to Utah to help, and the outpouring of support from friends (financial and physical) has been incredible.
The Future: We need to get Becca to Columbia! After lots of research and examining all the options for treatment, Becca was approved for stem cell treatment at a state of the art facility in Columbia. The process is expensive, and the travel is going to be a real challenge, but that is where you come in!
Becca has a goal list which includes walking again, riding horses, dancing, and of course, skydiving. Some of the short term goals are to get her off the ventilator and secure transport to Columbia so we can start the treatment protocols as soon as possible.
How to help: If you have a private jet to donate to her travel, that would be amazing! At this point we cannot afford to charter a flight and flying her on a commercial airline comes with a whole new set of challenges.
We are also asking for your help with sharing her story and supporting her road to recovery financially. ALL of the donations go directly to Becca's care and treatment.
You can check out www.TeamBecca.us to get her t-shirts, stickers, and follow the journey!
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for taking the time to experience some of Becca's joy, pain, and daily fight for progress.
