So, long story long. This was the best year our family has had so far. We moved to a beautiful part of Pennsylvania. We had a beautiful baby boy, Silas Jo Emmanuel Dickerson, and, although I had more than one job, I remained employed the majority of the year. I took some time off due to having two herniated discs. Anyway, good year. No evictions or bills shut off, normal, adult/parent stuff. New year comes, we start looking for a new place because our lease is up the end of Feb. No big deal still grooving and loving my job and our life. January 27th, the day tax season started, I filed taxes. Good to go. Early February I find out that my job is closing permanently. Also, not that bad. I find a job an hour and a half away that week. February 27th, we get the refund and we moved out of our old place and into a hotel near my new job and continue looking. Sunday, March 8th, while preparing our children to go to the park, I get arrested for a bench warrant and thrown in prison, and, subsequently, lost my job. Communication cut off, my fiancé, Carrie figures that she doesn’t know when or if I’m getting out and the hotel room was only booked until Friday. So, intelligently, she calls her best friend, who lives in Indiana, Brandy, to come get her and our 3 kids. 4 yr old Selah Bliss, 2 yr old Sunday Song, and 11 month old Silas are the ages and names by the way. They had sent my mail for my court date to the wrong address so I get out of jail on Thursday, March 11th, unbeknownst to Carrie, who already had dispatched her friend from Indiana and was well on her way the 7 hours it takes to drive there. I get back to the hotel in time to see them for a couple hours, play a bit, read a couple books, tickle fight and sleep with them because they all left in the morning. I stayed because there was work down in Maryland that would pay cash so I could at least be making money while Carrie looked for a place in Indiana for a family to live. Good to go? Well I worked for a week then Covid-19 hits and all the work dries up. Cool, I’ll just take my weeks pay and head on out to get the band back together. Well we can’t do that because of the potential of me getting everyone in Brandy’s house, where they’re staying, ill. So, no big deal, I’ll get a hotel for a couple of weeks and find work and get back to it. Now, all the money’s gone. I’ve started a fraud claim on my card but that could take weeks. I’ve been staying in my van in various parking lots an such and I stop by Brandy’s to get some food. I’ve been filling applications and sending out resumes and it’s rough because I can’t hug my children every night or at all. At least I get to see Carrie, but we’re 6 feet apart. My hope and optimism never leave me but confusion and depression are waiting to pounce on my soul. I pray and I chant and I’ll never give up because that’s not in a parent’s vocabulary.
