My name is Marianna Beltrami and I work for Aurora Vision, an independent production company which produces documentaries on a wide range of topics, especially on human rights, health, equality, and education.
Our upcoming documentary will deal with the crisis affecting Eritrea and especially with the life of children who escaped the country and now live in refugee camps in Ethiopia.
After the war for independence from Ethiopia, Eritrea was involved in another war for the borders in 2001 and has subsequently entered a time of closure and dictatorship. The population is now living in desperate conditions, deprived of freedom and any minimal services for survival. Whoever has the possibility runs away; however, the escape routes are themselves deadly: deserts, Lybia, the Mediterranean Sea; Egypt, where refugees get arrested or kidnapped by Bedouin gangs. Dr Alganesh Fessah dedicates her life to the liberation of the kidnapped and the prisoners, and the assistance of refugee camps in Ethiopia.
Every day, up to 60 children escape Eritrea, crossing the Danakil desert (considered by National Geographic as being the cruellest place on earth) and finding a place to stay in Ethiopian refugee camps.
Our aim is to follow and report the experience of these children, to understand how dr. Fessah manages the camps and what is of the children afterwards.
This is a relevant and urgent story to tell. We need your help to sustain the costs of making such an important documentary. The money we aim to raise will support the production costs of the film (the journey, editing and post-production). Part of the money made out of the distribution of the film will be dedicated to Alganesh's work for her people.
