Sophie' Smiles
Back on May 14th 2011 1.24am Sophie was born in Cosham hospital Portsmouth by cesarean section. 27 Weeks Gestation 13 Week early. After a extremely scary and difficult pregnancy. Sophie weighed 2lb 4oz, after 3 weeks in Cosham intensive care unit she was finally brought back to the Isle of Wight NICU where she spent 6 more weeks in special care.
Due to Sophie's prematurity and difficult birth she ended up with Bilateral Grade 4 intraventricular haemorrhage the her right side of her brain and a grade 3/4 to the left side. She also has a large porencephalic cyst on the right side and right cerebellar hemisphere volume loss. After 2 lots of emergency operations last Christmas Sophie now has a VP shunt fitted in her brain as she also has Hydrocephalus. She has also had a gastrostomy button fitted as Sophie has a very poor suck and swallow reflex and does not eat and drink enough. So is now pump fed for 21 hours a day. Sophie suffers from muscular spasms and is on Diazepam 3 times a day to try and keep them under control, and after attending the BoBath centre in London for 2 week it has been confirmed she now has Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy. We have just had her fitted for glasses as the opticians are not sure if Sophie can see from her Left eye, so were hoping glasses and a patch should help her vision we are also waiting as it look like she will also need a hearing aids on the left ear
We are raising money for Sophie to continue her treatment of Osteopaths, Hydrotherapy and hopfully we can raise enough money to send Sophie to the Bobath Centre in London for more intense therapy.
