Helping Survivors Start Again

Leaving an abusive relationship is not as simple as walking out the door.

For many people experiencing domestic violence, leaving can mean starting over with very little. There may be immediate costs for housing, transportation, groceries, clothing, household essentials, childcare, pet care, legal support, replacing belongings, or simply getting through the first few weeks safely.

This fundraiser was created to help make that transition a little less overwhelming.

Right now, someone close to our community is in the process of leaving a domestic violence situation and rebuilding her life. To protect her safety and privacy, identifying details about her circumstances will not be shared publicly.

Rather than creating a fundraiser that ends with one person, the goal is to build something that can continue supporting survivors in our community over time.

Where the money goes

Funds raised through this campaign will be divided:

1/3 will go directly to an individual leaving or rebuilding after domestic violence.

This portion is intended to help with practical expenses that come with starting again, including housing costs, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, childcare, pet-related expenses, and other immediate needs.

Our first recipient is currently navigating this transition. Once she has received support through the fundraiser, the individual-support portion of future donations can be directed toward another survivor who needs help rebuilding.

2/3 will be donated to an organization providing domestic violence services and support.

This allows the fundraiser to do two things at once: provide meaningful, direct assistance to one person while also supporting the organizations working every day to provide shelter, resources, advocacy, education, and longer-term support to survivors and families.

The recipient organization will be publicly identified once arrangements have been confirmed.

Why make this ongoing?

Domestic violence does not affect only one person, one family, or one moment in time.

The hope is for this fundraiser to become an ongoing community initiative where each new contribution helps both an individual survivor and the broader network of services available to people experiencing domestic violence.

As individual recipients receive support and begin moving forward, another person can be selected to receive the next portion of direct assistance.

Earth Maid is organizing this fundraiser as part of our commitment to supporting people in our community with dignity, compassion, and without judgment. Earth Maid will not retain any portion of the funds raised.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps create something incredibly important: options.

A deposit on a safe home.
A tank of gas.
Groceries for the week.
A bed or household essentials.
Transportation to an appointment.
A little breathing room while someone figures out what comes next.

Most importantly, it is a reminder that someone rebuilding after domestic violence does not have to do it entirely alone.
