To Everyone Who Believes in Making a Difference,
My name is Johnny Marin; I live in Costa Rica. I am asking for your support to help me build what I hope will become Costa Rica’s first community-focused barbershop, a place where every haircut helps make someone’s day a little better.
This dream began many years ago. My father was the barber in the small town where we lived. He didn’t own a barbershop. Instead, people came to our home because they trusted him, enjoyed talking with him, and appreciated the care he put into every haircut.
When I was a young boy (15-16) I began cutting my friends’ hair at home, never asking for anything in return. I simply enjoyed making them feel good about themselves and since then I have always cut my brothers and friends’ hair for free.
Life eventually took me down a different path. I built a career as a data analyst, where I have worked for over 17 years. Although I enjoyed solving problems and growing professionally, I never forgot the satisfaction I felt whenever I picked up a pair of clippers.
A few months ago, I decided it was time to learn this art more professionally and I enrolled in barbering classes because I want to become a professional barber and honor the legacy my father left me. Now I want to take the next step.
My goal is not simply to open another barbershop. I want to create a place that serves the community, along with providing high-quality barbering services, a place where people can wait for a haircut with a coffee or a cup of tea. I want to dedicate time every week to offering free haircuts to elderly residents, in nursing homes and people with very low income; people who often have limited access to personal grooming such as street people, but who deserve to feel cared for, confident, and respected.
To make this dream a reality, I need approximately $8,000. This funding will allow me to purchase professional equipment, secure a suitable location, and create a welcoming space where this vision can come to life.
Your support is more than an investment in a small business. It is an investment in a place where kindness, dignity, and community are just as important as a great haircut.
Whether your contribution is large or small, it will bring me one step closer to opening the doors of a barbershop that gives back to the people around it. And if you’re unable to contribute financially, sharing my story with others would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for believing that dreams rooted in service can make a real difference.
Together, we can build a place where every haircut restores confidence, creates connection, and reminds people that they matter.
Please review below this letter the project plan I developed for this dream.
With sincere gratitude,
Johnny Alberto Marin M.
Future Founder of Costa Rica’s First Community-Focused Barbershop.
Project Plan: Costa Rica’s First Community-Focused Barbershop.
Barbershop Name: Golden Classic Barbería
I chose this name because in Costa Rica people over 60 years old are
known as "Ciudadanos de oro", which means "Golden citizens".
Slogan: Cuts That Build Confidence.
Objective:
To establish Costa Rica's first community-focused barbershop that combines professional barbering services with meaningful social impact. The barbershop will provide exceptional grooming experiences in a welcoming environment while dedicating a portion of its time and resources to offering free haircuts for elderly individuals, nursing home residents, and people facing financial hardship. The project aims to create a sustainable business where every haircut contributes to improving confidence, dignity, and community well-being.
Mission:
To provide outstanding barbering services in a warm, welcoming environment where every client feels valued, respected, and connected. Through exceptional customer care, genuine relationships, and regular community outreach, we strive to improve lives by offering free grooming services to those who need them most, proving that a simple haircut can restore confidence, dignity, and hope.
Vision:
To become Costa Rica's most trusted and respected community-focused barbershop, recognized not only for excellence in barbering but also for its commitment to serving others. We envision a future where our business inspires other barbershops to embrace social responsibility, creating a network of businesses that strengthens communities, one haircut at a time.
