Hola, mi nombre es Esteban, tengo 19 años y vivo en Guatemala. Desde los 12 años soy paciente renal crónico. Mi vida cambió por completo en octubre de 2018, cuando inicié tratamiento de hemodiálisis. Pasé por convulsiones, anemia, taquicardias, presiones arteriales extremas, y hasta un paro cardíaco durante una sesión. Fue un momento crítico, pero logré sobrevivir gracias a los médicos… y a Dios.

Actualmente estoy en diálisis peritoneal, un tratamiento que realizo desde casa. Llevo 5 años con este sistema, y aunque he tenido recaídas, mi madre ha estado siempre a mi lado, cuidándome día y noche. Ella no puede trabajar porque mi condición requiere atención constante: arritmias, desorientación, presión alta… no cualquiera sabría cómo actuar. Pero ella sí.  

A pesar de todo, sigo estudiando. Terminé tercero básico y ahora curso 4to bachillerato en ciencias y letras. Mi sueño es ser artista digital y trabajar con tecnología: aprender a programar, reparar dispositivos, dominar el inglés y crear ilustraciones que inspiren.  

Estoy aprendiendo a dibujar en digital y me apasiona. Mis dibujos son mi escape, mi forma de expresarme, de sanar, de avanzar. Por eso, mi meta es conseguir una Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 11", y sería mi herramienta para estudiar, dibujar, aprender inglés y construir mi futuro.  

No es un lujo. Es una inversión en mi educación, en mi arte, en mi salud emocional.  

Mi familia hace lo posible, pero los recursos son limitados. Mi padre nos apoya, pero no alcanza para cubrir todo. Mi madre ha llorado muchas veces por no poder darme lo que necesito… pero yo le digo que con estar juntos, ya tengo lo más valioso.

Hello, my name is Esteban, I am 19 years old and I live in Guatemala. Since I was 12, I have been a chronic kidney patient. My life completely changed in October 2018, when I started hemodialysis treatment. I went through convulsions, anemia, tachycardia, extremely high blood pressure, and even a cardiac arrest during one of my sessions. It was a critical moment, but I managed to survive thanks to the doctors… and to God.  

Currently, I am on peritoneal dialysis, a treatment I can do at home. I have been using this system for 5 years, and although I have had relapses, my mother has always been by my side, taking care of me day and night. She cannot work because my condition requires constant attention: arrhythmias, disorientation, high blood pressure… not everyone would know how to act. But she does.  

Despite everything, I keep studying. I finished middle school and now I am in my 4th year of high school in science and letters. My dream is to become a digital artist and work with technology: learning programming, repairing devices, mastering English, and creating illustrations that inspire.  

I am learning digital drawing and I am passionate about it. My drawings are my escape, my way of expressing myself, of healing, of moving forward. That is why my goal is to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 11", and it would be my tool to study, draw, learn English, and build my future.  

It is not a luxury. It is an investment in my education, my art, and my emotional health.  

My family does what they can, but resources are limited. My father supports us, but it is not enough to cover everything. My mother has cried many times for not being able to give me what I need… but I tell her that being together is already the most valuable thing.
