Justice for Lamont
Imagine being a U.S. Army veteran, a small business owner, doing everything by the book — and still ending up in jail, your livelihood taken away, and your rights ignored. That’s what happened to me, Lamont Phillip Frye Jr.
On April 17, 2024, while returning home from a legitimate transportation job, I legally purchased cannabis from licensed dispensaries in New Mexico — where it’s fully legal. Hours later, passing through Childress County, Texas, I was pulled over for allegedly driving 81 in a 75. I cooperated completely, showed my license and proof of insurance, and waited.
Instead of writing a ticket, the officer extended the stop without cause, ordered me out of my vehicle, and searched it without consent or a warrant. He found the legally purchased cannabis, arrested me, and jailed me on a $55,000 bond. My 2022 work van — the lifeblood of my small business — was seized and labeled as being “bought with drug proceeds.” My lawfully registered firearm was confiscated but never documented or returned.
Because of a clerical address error, I later missed a court notice I never received — leading to a warrant for failure to appear. When I was stopped in Georgia in June 2024, I was arrested again and extradited back to Texas — all because of an administrative mistake.
What’s at stake
This ordeal cost me nearly everything.
-
My transportation business collapsed after losing my van.
-
Over $126,000 in income vanished, along with my credit and savings.
-
I now carry more than $130,000 in debt just trying to recover.
I’m not fighting only for myself. I’m fighting for every veteran, every working person, and every citizen who believes that following the law should protect you — not destroy you. My case exposes how Fourth Amendment rights can be trampled and how civil asset forfeiture allows authorities to take property before proving guilt.
How you can help
I’m raising funds to cover legal fees, case filings, and advocacy efforts to bring this injustice to light and push back against systemic abuse.
Your donation will help:
-
Secure professional legal representation.
-
Recover my seized property and restore my record.
-
Support public awareness so this doesn’t happen to another law-abiding citizen.
Even $5 brings this closer to the spotlight. Sharing this page helps more than you know. Together, we can hold the system accountable and make sure veterans and small business owners aren’t punished for obeying the law.
